The disciples of John the Baptist had come to a place of frustration in John 4. They were confused with the fact that people were going to Jesus instead of John to be baptized. To them, John was the one who was bringing the kingdom of God. John stated to them, “He must become greater and greater and I must become less and less.”
The tension John’s disciples were feeling is a tension we each deal with, power. For these men they had chosen to follow John for many right reasons but maybe part of their draw to him was the power he possessed. The hope of being with the man God had called would mean that their identity was tide to him.
Each one of us struggles with power. Our will is to be great and being great means being in control. As we are fasting our purpose is to give God the control of our lives. It is in this day that we stop and pray, “God, you must become greater and I must become less.” Allow today to be a releasing of control rather then a power struggle.

Powerful reminder. Yes we do struggle to be in control, the world teaches us to puff yourself up and Christ taught us to relinquish to Him so that the real power we experience is the power of God in our weakness. Thanks for reminding us of this fact.
