Nightmares- Daniel 7

Do you remember being a little kid and having nightmares.  For me, all my nightmares involve snakes.  I hate snakes, they freak me out.  I don’t know why but snakes are a sign of terror and death.

Daniel had a nightmare.  In his nightmare he had beasts that were envisioned like something from the deepest darkest pit. His dream was terrifying to the point when he awoke he kept it to himself.  Why?  Because some how he knew this was a foretelling of what was to come.

In our post modern world all we like to think about is the here and now.  It is what we are known for, living for today and today alone.  But is this biblical?  As we read throughout the scriptures we know that there is much more to this life then today.  We are given a present hope and the hope for the future.  Knowing this, how we live and choose to engage in the kingdom of God allows us to run from future fears and receive the promises God has for us.

As you are enjoying this snow day, take time to meditate on Daniel chapter 7.  What emotions come up?  What fears keep you from embracing all God has for you?  Remember, there is an eternal home in which we are daily invited to be a part of.
