This coming Sunday Night we once again have God in the Bar. In my preparing for this evening there is a thought that I can’t get away from. That thought is “Why the Star?”
There are some interesting connections as we look at light throughout Scripture. It begins with creation. The first thing God had created was Light. Why? What was Lights purpose?
The second involves the Christmas narrative. In two situations Light had played a major role. First with the Magi. These men were lead by a Star, celestial light to the child. Second, the shepherds were visited by the radiance of an angelic being. How do all these connect?
My interpretation begins with creation. God created light before anything else with the purpose for creation to see His handiwork. As humanity was awakened their first site was God.
I also find it interesting that God only gave direction to the Magi in the dark. They were not lead by day but by the handiwork of God by night. These Magi were invited to follow in darkness the light of God.
Our lives are full of darkness. Yet God is constantly inviting us to follow Him in the truth of His light. My prayer for you is that you, like the Magi, would be lead to the eternal presence of God by the “light of the world.”
