Set Apart- Daniel 1

This entry was posted on Feb 02 2010

Today is the beginning of walking through the book of Daniel.  Each day there will be a post that focuses on one key thought that comes from the chapter we are reading.  I encourage you to keep up with the reading and read the simple lessons on the blog.

As we begin looking at chapter 1, my first thought that comes to mind is “set-apart.”  Often times in  our lives, especially during difficult situations there is a temptation to let go of ones convictions.  We believe that because things are not going the way we expect them to we are allowed to hide in the crowd, compromise on the little things.

When you open the book of Daniel and begin to read about these 4 young men this was not the case.  Each of these men had been ripped out of their country, thrown into basically slavery and would never return to the life they had known.  Matter a fact, they would have to learn a whole new culture and be forced to reject their heritage.  How easy it would be for these men to slip into the crowd.  This was not the case.  Rather instead of slipping into the crowd they had chosen to be set apart with the risk of loosing their lives.

As you go forward into this day ask yourself, “How do I handle adversity?”  For many it is slipping into the crowd. Today you are being called by the living God to stand up and be set apart!
