Show Me Your Glory- Day 2
When was the last time you saw God’s miraclous power in your life? Was it in a place of crisis, in a situation dealing with your finances or maybe God had revealed Himself in the everyday of life. For many seeing God’s glory is more like the “luck of the draw” then a regular occurrence. In John chapter 2 there are two points that stand out, the miracle at the wedding and the incident in the temple. These two incidence seem to have very little similarities or do they?
At the wedding Jesus performed his first miracle. Jesus’ mother had asked repeatedly for Him to make more wine because there was no more celebratory beverages. After much persistance Jesus had turned water into wine, more then that he “revealed his glory”(verse 11). The response of the disciples was that they beleiveed in him. They were in awe of what Jesus had done.
As you continue to read on in chapter 2, Jesus and the disciples are on their way to celebrate the Passover in Jerusalem. As Jesus enters the Temple area he sees merchants selling offeratory animals. As he watched the money collectors he saw the deceitfulness of their hearts. They were blinded by the opportunity to make a profit rather then helping people make holy sacrifices to God. These people were blinded by the things of this world. To that Jesus chased them out of the Temple because of their greed and selfishness. How does the changing of water to wine and the Temple incident have any similarities?
One of the reasons we miss out on seeing God’s glory is because we are so easily distracted by the things of this world. We allow materialism and greed to consume our lives which blind us from God’s glory. Even as a disciple we can find ourselves being consumed with our own selfishness rather then trusting God to be our provider.
God’s desire is to daily reveal His glory to us. The miracles of scripture whether it was changing water into wine, healing the sick, setting the demonized free or the truth of Jesus being revealed to someone was a regular occurrence. As we are fasting today ask God to reveal His glory to you. Allow today to be a fresh start of not allowing the things of this world to keep you blinded from seeing the glory of God around you.
